Afternoon all!
So, 2nd week in for the new site and new look and things are progressing nicely. Let’s get the boring parts out of the way.
- The client login section is in testing and should be live soon
- I am working on adding a couple of new sections, the main change will be seen under portraits (more on that in a bit)
- A couple of other tweaks have been made and a couple more to come
Client Login
Something I’ve been wanting for a while now is better privacy for my clients. Before when a batch of images were ready for a client I would create a gallery, put it in a random area of my webspace (that wasn’t accessible unless you knew the link!) and then email the link to the client.
End result was, the client got a gallery, but it wasn’t integrated into the website, and if they wanted to order any images they had to manually note down the image names, then send me an email. Basically, in summary…rubbish.
When the new site was being built this was a key feature I wanted with the requirements being
- Fully integrated into the website, I do not want to take the user away from the website for any reason.
- The ability to select which images the user would like to order.
- To be able to select the images (as above), add some notes and then email me the information, all within the same page.
- For the client to have their own unique username and password which will then automatically load their images, again without takng them away from the page.
- Follow the theme of the website, in the sense it’s clean and easy to navigate.
I’m very happy to say all of the above has been successfully made, it’s currently in testing and should go live within a couple of days, I’ll create a test login for you guys to try out so you can get a feel for how it works.
New Sections – Changes to ‘Portraits’
Ok, section changes!
Curently I have, Portraits and Weddings. Which is fine but I need to expand on this a bit. Unfortunately ‘Portraits’ is a very catch-all term and if you look at it you’ll see some content in there which…should really belong under a different section, for example, glamour. Currently, it also makes me look like I only take photos which aren’t all that safe for work. Which really isn’t the case!
So right now I’m working on having a glamour section to seperate these from what I would call people portraits
The next new section will be ‘Editorial’, It’ll include some work which I haven’t been able to show due to it not ‘fitting’ anywhere.
These will appear within the next couple of weeks! 
A few tweaks!
Obviously no site is ‘complete’ and I have received lots of feedback, so I’d like to thank you all for that! – Tweaks included are
- Reduce the headroom at the top of the page
- Change my initial image when you logon to the website (some have mentioned if it was the first time browsing the site it doesn’t advertise the business properly and isn’t ‘serious’, so this will be changed within a few days
- The new sections mentioned above
